The Glycemic Food Index

The benefits of low glycemic index foods are really quite substantial. Low glycemic index foods are (on the whole) very good to eat because they help the body’s internal workings to remain stable.

This means that the body does not over produce insulin, blood sugars are kept stable and everything is as it should be. So even from this one perspective, low glycemic foods bring enormous benefits.

Low Glycemic Foods and Exercise

Low glycemic foods actually help the body endure more physical activity. If you eat food that has a lot of carbohydrate, then the body can quickly use this up. When it does you will start to feel tired, even lethargic and if you are about to exercise, well you really will not feel like it. If you have eaten low glycemic index foods a couple of hours earlier then you will still have the energy to exercise, thus helping your body stay fit and healthy even more!

Low Glycemic Foods and Energy

We are all aware of what a sugar rush is like. You eat something that si very sugary, you feel great, ready to take on the world as your blood sugars are high. Then your blood sugars dip and with that comes a feeling of tiredness. You lack energy and that feeling of having no energy leaves you drained.

Eating low glycemic index foods creates a gentle rise in blood sugars that lasts for a very long time, so you feel more energetic!

Low Glycemic Foods and Weight Loss

Generally, foods that are low in glycemic index terms will help you to lose weight. You do have to exercise some caution, because some low glycemic index foods are high in fats, such as nuts. But overall, if you eat lots of vegetables, lentils, oatmeal etc then not only will you have more energy and fewer highs and lows but you will also lose weight.

Now those really are serious benefits, all courtesy of low glycemic index foods!
